Few sponsors are as tied to a club's identity as Newcastle Brown Ale is to Newcastle United. Through the 1990s, the famous blue star sat across the black and white stripes of St James' Park, and it became the badge of one of the most thrilling teams the Premier League has ever seen: Kevin Keegan's Entertainers.
The Entertainers
Keegan returned to Newcastle as manager in 1992 and took the club from the bottom half of the second tier to the top of the Premier League. His teams attacked relentlessly. David Ginola tormented full-backs, Les Ferdinand scored for fun, Peter Beardsley ran the show and Faustino Asprilla added moments of pure magic.
In 1995/96, Newcastle led the league by 12 points in January before Manchester United reeled them in. That title race produced Keegan's famous "I would love it" outburst on live television and the 4-3 game at Anfield, still regularly voted the greatest Premier League match ever.

Shearer comes home
In the summer of 1996, Newcastle broke the world transfer record to bring Alan Shearer, a Geordie, home from Blackburn. That October, Newcastle beat Manchester United 5-0 at St James' Park, one of the most celebrated afternoons in the club's history. Shearer went on to become Newcastle's record goalscorer, and the shirts of that era are inseparable from him.
The away shirts
The Brown Ale era also produced some brilliant away kits. Check out the 1995-97 away shirt and the 1994-95 away shirt, plus the 1997-99 home shirt that followed.
